     Explanation: Sometime after his appearences to his disciples in Galilee, Jesus met them in Bethany, near Jerusalem. From there he ascended back into heaven. The disciples continued in prayer, fellowship, and proclamation of the gospel.

     Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Acts 1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Acts 1:3 To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: Luke 24:50a And he led them out as far as to Bethany, Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, you have heard of me. Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
     Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, will you at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Acts 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power. Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
     Luke 24:51a And it came to pass, Mark 16:19a after the Lord had spoken Acts 1:9b these things Mark 16:19b unto them, Acts 1:9c while they beheld, Luke 24:50b he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. Luke 24:51a And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, Acts 1:9d (and) he was taken up; Luke 24:51d and carried up into heaven. Acts 1:9e And a cloud received him out of their sight. Mark 16:19c (And) he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
     Acts 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Acts 1:11 Which also said, You men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven. Luke 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy Acts 1:12b from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
     Acts 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Luke 24:53 And (they) were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
