SPECIAL NOTE:

[ I will again be working through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ]

Explanation: In 2 Chronicles 3 Solomon builds the Temple.Traditional Patriarchal Timeline. Judges. Judges Period Chronology. Kings of Judah and Israel #1. Kings of Judah and Israel #2].
Solomon began to build the Temple in the fourth year of his reign and finished it (1 Kings 6:9, 14, 37-38) seven years later (about 966 B.C. - 959 B.C.). He placed it in Mount Moriah, a part of Jerusalem where Araunah (Ornan) had the threshing floor which David purchased as the building site for the Temple. He used gold, gemstones, and carvings in the building (1-7).
He covered the inside of the Holy of Holies, the innermost sacred place in the Temple, with gold (8-9).
He also made two cherubim, covered them with gold, and placed them in the Holy of Holies. And, covering the doorway of the Holy of Holies, he placed a veil of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen; and on the veil he had images of cherubim woven in (10-14).
At the front of the Temple he put two pillars, ornately decorated; and he called one Jachin and the other Boaz (15-17).
The parallel passages in 1 Kings 6 and 7 describe the interior of the Temple in more detail than the chapter below. They mention that Solomon began the Temple 480 years after the Israelites came out of Egypt (1 Kings 6:1). They also state God's promise to Solomon (1 Kings 6:11-13). Also, 1 Kings 6:2-28 tells about the dimensions of the Temple, its materials, its porch, its windows, its stories, its Holy of holies, and its cherubim artwork. The Temple veil is described in 2 Chronicles 3:14, but not in Kings. The walls and floor are described in 1 Kings 6:15, 29-30. The doors are described in 1 Kings 6:31-35. The completion of the Temple is described in 1 Kings 6:9, 14, 37-38. The building of Solomon's house is described in 1 Kings 7:1-12. For brass-work in the Temple, Solomon hired Hiram of Tyre, who had the same name as Hiram the King of Tyre -- (1 Kings 7:13-14). The two pillars in the Temple (Jachin and Boaz) are described more fully in 1 Kings 7:15-22.

RESOURCES

PLEASE NOTE: Use the resources on this and other sites thoughtfully, particularly the commentaries and encyclopedias. I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.

1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 2 And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign. 3 Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits. 4 And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold. 5 And the greater house he cieled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains. 6 And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim. 7 He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.
8 And he made the most holy [holy of holies] house, the length whereof was according to [upon the face of] the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents. 9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.
10 And in the most holy [holy of holies] house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold. 11 And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. 12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward. 14 And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims thereon.
15 Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits. 16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains. 17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.
