WHY STUDY ENGLISH?
Scott Souza

First, let's talk about why you should study. If you study, no one will ever be able to say you are nescient (which means you know nothing). Instead, you will be sentient (which means you know something). In fact, you will even become sententious (you'll be filled with wisdom, and knowledge, and maxims, and proverbs, and all kinds of kewl stuf'). You won't have to be prescient (to know things beforehand or prophetically); your smarts will pull you through. And you won't have to know everything: that would make you omniscient. God has that covered; so you can just enjoy learning as many things as you can - and that's a lot.

When you become sententious you can do some cognition (thinking). No doubt you'll do some cogitation (deep thinking). In fact, you can even excogitate (think things out, work through problems, invent things, come up with brilliant thoughts). And you can ideate (form ideas). You may even have what the French call an apercu (a sudden, intuitive idea)

People will say, "Hey, you're really perspicacious (filled with keen mental perception)." And they will say, "You're very sagacious (that means you have a keen mind)." And you'll say, "Yeah, that's because I practice ratiocination (careful, precise reasoning) and voluminous cogitations (lots of thinking)."

Your mind will coruscate (flash, sparkle). It will be lucid (full of light, clear). And what you say and write will be pellucid (exceptionally clear and understandable).

But ... why study English? I'll answer your question with a question.

Here's the question: "Do you know what a sentence is?" The answer may surprise you.

The original meaning of "sentence" is "a way of thinking."

So it's language, and words, and the rules of grammar that will help you make the sentences (written or spoken) which show people you know how to think. (So what do you think about English now?)
