Ad Lib 2008: The Annual Retreat
For Literary, Visual, & Performing Arts
September 26 - September 28, 2008
Franciscan Retreat Center
Colorado Springs, CO
Do you know what a "thin place" is? In Celtic mythology, it is a place where the boundary between time and eternity is "thin," where one can sense the presence of the spiritual realm in a special way. Some think that spiritual states of joy and suffering can create "thin places" too.
As artists and writers, Christian creative spirits need to discern the thin places of life, and one of the ways we do it is by fellowship with like-minded brothers and sisters. Do you write? Paint? Sing? Perform in theatre? Would you like to share your gift and craft in an atmosphere of prayer, worship, conversation, critique and performance? If so, please join us in Colorado Springs in the quiet "thin-ness" of the Franciscan Retreat Center this Fall, September 26-28. You will be deeply welcome. And bring your gift to share.
Resource people will facilitate the visibility we may have with one another through a sharing of our arts, hearts, and minds. Inquire at: richard.terrell@doane.edu.
WHAT IS AD LIB?
Ad Lib is a fellowship of Christians who share love for Jesus Christ and the arts.
Founded by poet and publisher Judith Deem Dupree in 1995, Ad Lib seeks to encourage
and refresh the creative spirits of Christians writers, visual artists, performers, as
well as pastors and friends of the arts interested in the interaction between faith and
artistic expression. Since its founding, Ad Lib had brought together people from a wide
geographical area in the interest of participating in a sabbath time of
fellowship critique, and worship with like-minded souls.
Colorado has been the annual location for annual retreats since its founding, often in
Colorado Springs, at other times in Allenspark. Over the years, the retreat had brought
together highly accomplished professionals, serious amateurs, publishers, novelists, professors,
pastors, theatrical performers, and curious appreciators.
ARTS DISPLAY
You are invited to bring 2-3 works that best represent your art: Canvases, photographic art, books, music scores, journals, magazines, photos of performances, etc.. You are responsible for your display set-up in the designated area(s). Performance artists may participate in "open mic." (Ask us!).

LOCATION
The Franciscan Retreat Center
The Franciscan Retreat Center is located in suburban Colorado Springs on a hill overlooking
the city. The setting of the center is conducive to solitude and meditation while offering
easy access to the urban environment of Colorado Springs. It is not an unusal experience
to encounter deer in the morning, tasting the grass on the campus. The center houses
comfortable rooms, a fine cafeteria, and meeting rooms for attendees at the retreat.
