Ad Lib 2011: The Annual Retreat
For Literary, Visual, & Performing Arts
September 22 - September 25, 2011
Franciscan Retreat Center
Colorado Springs, CO
Here is a preview of what’s coming up at Ad Lib ’11:
AD LIB CHRISTIAN ARTS is a
fellowship of Christian believers who work in and/or love the various creative
arts of writing, visual art, music and other media of personal and
corporate expression. Our retreat welcomes writers and artists of all
expressions, worship leaders and pastors. Please join us for our annual
retreat, to be held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado
Springs, September 22, 23, 24, and 25.
Our time together will be
stimulated by our Keynote Theme, Visualizing Creation. This will
be much more of a working and creating retreat than we have had before.
We will spend time meditating upon the creation account in Genesis, and
engage in the development of literary interpretations and visual
expressions related to it. So, if you come (please do) bring along your
writing tools, paints and other visual arts materials. What we will try
to do is begin to create a collaborative artistic interpretation
of the actual text that we could post online and have as a
developing project that people could continue to contribute to.
As a main attraction/highlight
we will feature a performance by Roger Nelson as "St. Patrick."
Roger gave us a glimpse last year, but we'd like to see the whole show
this year. Roger’s performance is both arresting and enlightening. It is
history rendered dramatically and artistically. His performance
consistently draws acclaim and praise.
RETREAT PERSPECTIVE
AD LIB embraces the concept of Sabbath.
The retreat is a prayerful time of thinking and learning, critique and
relationship. Bring your work to share and discuss. We balance focused
presentations with response and free time for personal growth and creative
work.
The Franciscan Retreat
Center is a quiet harbor within the city of Colorado Springs. While
walking across its campus, you will see deer gently munching on the
grass, and perhaps acknowledging you with a curious gaze. You may walk
and meditate/pray in the center’s outdoor Labyrinth. .Yet, the city is
nearby for those who desire to spend some free time visiting its
outstanding attractions (art galleries, Garden of the Gods, Fine Arts
Center, etc.).
Meals for the retreat will be
provided and served by AD LIB. This helps us to reduce costs, and also
allows attendees to organize their meals with more flexibility. This
approach has received good reviews since we initiated it two years ago
under the leadership of our Hospitality minister Joanne Irwin.

ABOUT AD LIB
Ad Lib is a fellowship of
Christians working in various artistic media seeking to understand the
relationship between the Christian faith, a Biblical worldview, and the
broad frontiers of artistic expression related to individual endeavor and
the corporate worship and fellowship of life in the Body of Jesus Christ. We welcome the insights and contributions of
artists, musicians, writers, pastors, worship leaders, and anyone else
who is simply interested in these issues. You will have opportunity to
share your vision, your art, your poetry and stories, while sharing in
prayer, worship, and fellowship with like-minded brethren. Join us for Ad
Lib's 15th Annual Retreat. You are most welcome and we look to being
together with you! ARTS
DISPLAY
You are invited to bring 2-3
works that best represent your art: Canvases, photographic art, books,
music scores, journals, magazines, photos of performances, etc.. You are responsible for your display set-up in the
designated area(s). Performance artists may participate in "open mic." (Ask us!).
