     Explanation: In Psalm 117 the Psalmist praises the LORD for his merciful kindness and his truth. The painting above depicts the LORD who is worthy of praise.

     The Psalmist opens and closes his Psalm with the words, "praise the LORD." He speaks to all nations (1). The LORD is to be praised for his merciful kindness and his eternal truth (2).

1 O praise the LORD, all ye nations:
praise him, all ye people.
2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us:
and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever.
Praise ye the LORD.

[Some commentators take the Psalm in Habakkuk 3 to be a standard model for the Psalms.
Habakkuk's Psalm begins with the name of the composer (Habakkuk) and a musical notation ("upon Shigionoth").
It closes with a dedication or a "send to" notice ("To the chief singer on my stringed instruments").
I have arranged similar material, where it is found in the Psalter, in accord with the model in Habakkuk.]
