Explanation: In Psalm 134 the Psalmist calls for the priests to bless the LORD and for the LORD to bless the priests. The LORD would bless his people from the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies, which was the inmost portion of the Tabernacle/Temple. Today's image depicts the spiritual and ethereal dimensions of the Ark of the Covenant, as an intersection point between the earthly and the heavenly realms.

The Psalmist urges the servants of the LORD to bless the LORD as they stand by night in the house of the LORD -- i.e., the Tabernacle and later the Temple (1). This is to be accompanied by the lifting of hands (2). He closes by asking that the LORD who created heaven and earth would bless them out of Zion, where the LORD's house was (3).

THE PSALTER:

BOOK FIVE OF FIVE:

Psalms 107-150.

Psalm 134

1 A Song of degrees. *

Behold,
bless ye the LORD,
all ye servants of the LORD,
which by night stand in the house of the LORD.
2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
and bless the LORD.
3 The LORD that made heaven and earth
bless thee out of Zion.

* NOTE: On Opening and Closing Comments in the Psalms.
[Some commentators take the Psalm in Habakkuk 3 to be a standard model for the Psalms.
Habakkuk's Psalm begins with the name of the composer (Habakkuk) and a musical notation ("upon Shigionoth").
It closes with a dedication or a "send to" notice ("To the chief singer on my stringed instruments").
I have arranged similar material, where it is found in the Psalter, in accord with the model in Habakkuk.]
