Explanation: In Hosea 3 , Hosea purchased a 'woman' (most probably Gomer, who had forsaken him) for fifteen pieces of silver and an homer and a half of barley. He commanded her not to be a harlot and not to be for another man; and, likewise, he pledged to be for her. And the LORD told Hosea that Israel would one day do the same - - seeking the LORD and being for him. [Sermons: Stuart Olyott. William Still. ].
Today's image depicts Hosea's purchase of Gomer, as mentioned in today's chapter.

2. After Gomer's Captivity (3:1 - 14:19)

a. Signs to Israel After Gomer Returned From Captivity (Hosea 3:1 - 3:5) - 756-720 B.C., Israel

1). Gomer Redeemed from Slavery - A Sign that, as Hosea Loves Gomer, so the LORD Loves Israel (3:1-2)

1 Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine. 2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

2). Gomer Returns from Slavery - A Sign That Israel Will Return and Seek the LORD and David their King (i.e., the Davidic King, Christ) - (3:3-5)

3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim: 5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
