Explanation: In Revelation 15, John saw seven angels with the seven last plagues which finish the wrath of God. This shows a connection between these and the former judgments. It indicates that the Lord has a structured response to evil which gets increasingly severe and increasingly effective until evil is defeated (chapters 1-16), then destroyed (17-18), and finally replaced by holiness (19-22). We are presently living in the time during which evil is being defeated (1).
After seeing the seven angels with seven plagues, John then saw a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who had conquered the beast stood beside it, playing on their harps, and singing the song of Moses (deliverance through the Exodus) and of the Lamb (deliverance by the cross). The song extols God for his great and amazing deeds, his justice, his truth, his worthiness to be feared and glorified, and his holiness. The song predicts that all nations will come and worship God because of his righteous acts which he revealed to them (2-4).
Afterward, John saw the sanctuary open, and the seven angels came out of it clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. The four living creatures gave them seven bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever. And the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and no one could enter (5-8).

[Illustration: Today's painting is ironic, because it depicts the thing which would have turned aside God's judgment, temperance. It is humanity's refusal to cease from their sins against God and his people which brings irreversible, and final judgment, which begins in today's chapter. ]

Revelation 15

1. The Approaching End: The Five Sets of Seven - Evil is Defeated (Revelation 1:1 - Revelation 16:21) - 95 A.D. Patmos

1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: 6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. 7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever [into the eons of the eons]. 8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.
