     [ Illustration: The physical manifestation of the blessings mentioned in today's Psalm (symbolized by Herod's Temple in today's painting) lasted until the time of Jesus. After his resurrection and ascension, Jesus (who sits on David's throne) widened the blessing to include Gentiles all over the world. The final manifestation of these blessings will be in the new heavens and the new earth. ]

SPECIAL NOTE:

[ I will again be working through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ]

     Explanation: In Psalm 132, David describes how he brought the ark into Jerusalem and how the LORD responded with promises of blessings and of perpetual kingship.
     David asks the LORD to remember him in his time of affliction. He reminds the LORD that he did not rest until he found a place for the LORD's Tabernacle (1-5).
     He then asked the LORD to come into the Tabernacle; and he asked for the priests to be clothed with righteousness and asked that the LORD would cause the saints would rejoice. He also asked that God would not turn his face from him (6-10).
     The LORD responded by promising David and his progeny a perpetual throne. The LORD also said that he had chosen Zion (where David set up the Tabernacle); and he promised to bless the poor; to clothe the priests with salvation, and to cause the saints to rejoice. The LORD further promised to strengthen David's house, to make his crown flourish, and to clothe his enemies with shame (11-18).

RESOURCES

PLEASE NOTE: Use the resources on this and other sites thoughtfully, particularly the commentaries and encyclopedias. I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.

THE PSALTER:

(SONGS FOR COVENANT WORSHIP)
Deliverance from Sinners and from Sin

Nearly all the Psalms (except Psalm 90) were written during the 612 year period
from the time of David around 1016 B. C. to the close of the Canon in about 404 B. C.
Psalm 90, according to its superscription, was written by Moses; this may have been around 1406 B. C.

1 A Song of degrees.

LORD, remember David,
and all his afflictions:
2 How he sware unto the LORD,
and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house,
nor go up into my bed [couch of my bedchamber];
4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes,
or slumber to mine eyelids,
5 Until I find out a place for the LORD,
an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

6 Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah:
we found it in the fields of the wood.
7 We will go into his tabernacles:
we will worship at his footstool [stool of his feet].
8 Arise, O LORD, into thy rest;
thou, and the ark of thy strength.
9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness;
and let thy saints shout for joy.
10 For thy servant David's sake
turn not away the face of thine anointed.

11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David;
he will not turn from it;
Of the fruit of thy body
will I set upon thy throne.
12 If thy children will keep my covenant
and my testimony that I shall teach them,
their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore [unto perpetuity].
13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion;
he hath desired it for his habitation.
14 This is my rest for ever [unto perpetuity]:
here will I dwell;
for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless [blessing I shall bless] her provision:
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation:
and her saints shall shout aloud for joy [being jubilant they shall be jubilant].
17 There will I make the horn of David to bud:
I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
18 His enemies will I clothe with shame:
but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

* NOTE: On Opening and Closing Comments in the Psalms.
[Some commentators take the Psalm in Habakkuk 3 to be a standard model for the Psalms.
Habakkuk's Psalm begins with the name of the composer (Habakkuk) and a musical notation ("upon Shigionoth").
It closes with a dedication or a "send to" notice ("To the chief singer on my stringed instruments").
I have arranged similar material, where it is found in the Psalter, in accord with the model in Habakkuk.]
