SPECIAL NOTE:

[ I will again be working through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ]

     Explanation: Jeremiah 12, verse 9, reveals that an attack (as depicted above) is coming on God's heritage. The chapter opens with a plea from Jeremiah asking why the wicked prosper and take root; he asks the LORD to send them to the slaughter and deliver the land and its herbs, and birds, and beasts (1-4).
     The LORD replies that Jeremiah's distress is going to increase because he (the LORD) has forsaken his heritage and will send judgments upon them because he is alienated from them; their pastors have made them desolate; and the spoilers have come upon them; they have sown wheat and will reap thorns (5-13).
     But Israel's neighbors will also be judged and will be removed; however, they will be restored if they learn the LORD's ways, or destroyed if they don't (14-17).

RESOURCES

PLEASE NOTE: Use the resources on this and other sites thoughtfully, particularly the commentaries and encyclopedias. I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.

d). The LORD's Fourth Word (continued): Curses are Upon Those Who Break the Covenant (11:1 - 12:17)

1 Righteous art thou, O LORD,
when I plead with thee:
yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments:
Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper?
wherefore are all they happy
that deal very treacherously [covering with a covering]?
2 Thou hast planted them,
yea,
they have taken root:
they grow,
yea,
they bring forth fruit:
thou art near in their mouth,
and far from their reins.
3 But thou, O LORD,
knowest me:
thou hast seen me,
and tried mine heart toward thee:
pull them out like sheep for the slaughter,
and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
4 How long [Until when] shall the land mourn,
and the herbs of every field wither,
for the wickedness of them that dwell therein?
the beasts are consumed,
and the birds;
because they said,
He shall not see [this] our last end.

5 If thou hast run with the footmen,
and they have wearied thee,
then how canst thou contend with horses?
and if in the land of peace,
wherein thou trustedst,
they wearied thee,
then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
6 For even thy brethren,
and the house of thy father,
even they have dealt treacherously with thee;
yea,
they have called a multitude after thee:
believe them not,
though they speak fair words unto thee.

7 I have forsaken [this] mine house,
I have left [this] mine heritage;
I have given [this] the dearly beloved of my soul
into the hand of her enemies.
8 Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest;
it crieth out [it gave voice] against me:
therefore have I hated it.
9 Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird,
the birds round about are against her;
come ye,
assemble all the beasts of the field,
come to devour.
10 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard,
they have trodden my portion under foot [they trampled {this} [my portion],
they have made [this] my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
11 They have made it desolate,
and being desolate
it mourneth unto me;
the whole land is made desolate,
because no man layeth it to heart.
12 The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness:
for the sword of the LORD
shall devour from the one end of the land
even to the other end of the land:
no [nothing of all] flesh shall have peace.
13 They have sown wheat,
but shall reap thorns:
they have put themselves to pain,
but shall not profit:
and they shall be ashamed of your revenues
because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

     14 Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused [this] my people -- [this] -- Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them. 15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out -- [them] -- I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. 16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn [learning they are learning] [this] the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught [this] my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people. 17 But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up [I tear tearing] and destroy [this] -- that nation, saith the LORD.
