Crucifixion (Corpus Hypercubus) - (1954)

Explanation: As Jesus continued making the rounds of various cities on his way to his final journey to Jerusalem, his disciples were still feeling a sense of amazement about his teaching that salvation was impossible unless God accomplished it for us. This he would soon do through Christ's sacrifice on the cross, an event which Christ outlined to them as they travelled together. As symbolized in the Dali painting above, the crucifixion had extra dimensions which went far beyond the mere physical event. It became the crux event for all of human and spiritual history.

Matthew 20:17-19; Mark 10:32-34; Luke 18:31-34      Mark 10:32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve [Matthew 20:17 disciples apart {Luke 18:31 unto him} in the way,] and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, [Luke 18:31 and said unto them,] Matthew 20:18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed [Mark 10:33 (and) delivered] unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, [Mark 10:33 and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:] Mark 10:34 And they shall mock him, [Luke 18:32 (and he shall be) spitefully entreated,] and (they) shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, [Matthew 20:19 and (shall) crucify him:] and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. Luke 18:31 and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. Luke 18:34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
