Explanation: At the beginning of Friday, just after Jesus awakened the disciples from their sleep of depression, Judas came with around 600 soldiers and covered Jesus with profuse kisses to point him out to the authorities. As Jesus was being arrested, Peter hit Malchus with a sword and cut off his ear. However, Jesus rebuked Peter for using violence and healed Malchus. this was in accord with Jesus' teachings that the Kingdom of God does not come with violence but by spiritual means.

Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; Luke 22:47-53; John 18:2-12

John 18:2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place [The Garden of Gethsemane]: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. Mark 14:43 And immediately, while he yet spoke, Matthew 26:47 lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests [Mark 14:43b and the scribes] and elders of the people. Luke 22:47b (And) Judas, one of the twelve, went before them,
John 18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek you? John 18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. John 18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. John 18:7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek you? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. John 18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore you seek me, let these go their way: John 18:9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of them which you gave me have I lost none.
Mark 14:44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token [Matthew 26:48b a sign], saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, [Matthew 26:48c hold him fast], and lead him away safely. Mark 14:45 And as soon as he was come, he went [Matthew 26:49a forthwith] straightway [Luke 22:47c (and) drew near unto Jesus to kiss him], and said, Master, master; [Matthew 26:49b Hail, master;] and kissed him. Luke 22:48 But Jesus said unto him, [Matthew 26:50a Friend] Judas, [Matthew 26:50a wherefore are you come?] betray you the Son of man with a kiss?
John 18:12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews [Matthew 26:50b came] [Mark 14:46 And they laid their hands on him, and took] Jesus, and bound him, Luke 22:49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? John 18:10 Then [Mark 14:47a one of them that stood by], Simon Peter, [Matthew 26:51a stretched out his hand, and] having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Luke 22:51a And [John 18:11a then] Jesus answered and said [John 18:11 unto Peter,] Suffer you thus far. [John 18 11b Put up your sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?] Matthew 26:53 Think you that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? Matthew 26:54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? Luke 22:51b And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Matthew 26:55a In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes [Luke 22:52a unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him], Are you come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple [Mt 26:55b; Mk 14:49a teaching], you stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Matthew 26:56a But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets [Mark 14:49b must be fulfilled.]
Matthew 26:56bThen all the disciples forsook him, and fled. Mark 14:51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: Mark 14:52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
