     The subjects of chapter 15 are these: A soft word turns away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger (1). The tongue of the wise uses knowledge correctly; but foolishness pours out of the mouth of fools (2). The eyes of the LORD are everywhere beholding the evil and the good (3). A wholesome tongue gives life; but perverseness (distortion) in the tongue breaches (fractures) the spirit (4). A fool despises his father's instruction; but one who is prudent regards it (5). The righteous have much treasure; but the income of the wicked is troubled (6). Knowledge comes from the lips of the wise, but not from the heart of the foolish (7). The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; but he delights in the prayer of the upright (8). The LORD abominates the way of the wicked; but he loves those who follow righteousness (9). Correction is grievous to those who forsake the way; and he who hates reproof will die (10). Hell and destruction are open before the LORD; and much more so the hearts of men (11). A scorner does not love those who reprove him, nor will he go to the wise (12). A merry heart cheers the countenance; but sorrow breaks the heart (13). An understanding heart seeks knowledge; but fools feed on foolishness (14). All the days of the afflicted are evil; but someone with a merry heart has a continual feast (15). It is better to have a little with the fear of the LORD than to have great treasure with trouble -- or uproar or vexation (16). A dinner of herbs with love is better than a stalled ox with hatred (17). A wrathful man stirs up strife; but one who is slow to anger appeases it (18). The way of a slothful man is like a hedge of thorns to him; but the way of the righteous is a level path (19). A wise son makes his father glad; but a foolish man despises his mother (20). Those who are destitute of wisdom enjoy folly; but a man of understanding walks uprightly (21). Without counsel purposes are disappointed; but they are established by a multitude of counselors (22). A man has joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word spoken in season is very good (23). The way of life leads upward for the wise that he may depart from hell beneath (24). The LORD will destroy the house of the proud; but he will establish the territory of the widow (25). The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD; but the words of the pure are pleasant (26). He who is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he who hates gifts will live (27). The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer; but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things (28). The LORD is far from the wicked; but he hears the prayer of the righteous (29). The light of the eyes rejoices the heart; and good news makes the bones fat (30). The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise (31). He who refuses instruction despises his own soul; but He who hears reproof gets understanding (32). The fear of the LORD comes by instruction in wisdom; and before honor is humility (33).
