SPECIAL NOTE:

[ I will again be working through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. I will be adding links, resources, images, and the like, upgrading the former work-through which began with the 2013-10-12 posting which can be found, along with the full Genesis to Revelation postings, in the Archive Page. Postings will be at midnight Eastern Time, as I am able. However, no chapters will be skipped, even though a posting may be late. And all postings will be housed in the Archive Page. ]

     Explanation: In Isaiah 62, instead of the negative expectations depicted above, God promises great things for his people. They will become righteous and will be given salvation (1).
    The Gentiles will see this; and the LORD will change their name from 'Forsaken' and 'Desolate' to 'Delightful' and 'Husbanded' (with the implication of 'Married') -- (2-5).
    The LORD tells them that he has set watchmen upon their walls who will give the Lord no rest praying day and night for these things to be done; and the LORD swears in his holiness that his people will no longer be robbed of their food and drink but will enjoy it for themselves (6-9).
    And the LORD declares that the salvation of his people is coming; and they will be called 'Holy,' 'Redeemed,' 'Sought Out,' and 'Not Forsaken' (10-12).

RESOURCES

PLEASE NOTE: Use the resources on this and other sites thoughtfully, particularly the commentaries and encyclopedias. I have attempted to list conservative, scholarly resources. However, some providers use liberal or liberal-influenced commentaries such as the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges (in Bible Hub). Such commentaries are undoubtedly included by the provider for the wealth of useful information and comments which they provide. By consulting several commentaries, it should be fairly easy to sort out the wheat from the chaff. If, however, you would like personal assistance, write to me at AD LIB ARTS EMAIL.

G. Cycle 7 (60:1 - 63:6)

1. Blessing: On the LORD's People at an Appointed Time (60:1 - 62:12)

c. The LORD Will Make His People Righteous, Glorify Them, and Spiritually Marry Them (62:1-12)

1 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace,
and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest,
until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness,
and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness,
and all kings thy glory:
and thou shalt be called by a new name,
which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD,
and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken;
neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate:
but thou shalt be called Hephzibah,
and thy land Beulah :
for the LORD delighteth in thee,
and thy land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marrieth a virgin,
so shall thy sons marry thee:
and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride,
so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem,
which shall never hold their peace day nor night:
ye that make mention of [this] the LORD,
keep not silence,
7 And give him no rest,
till he establish,
and till he make [this] Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
8 The LORD hath sworn by his right hand,
and by the arm of his strength,
Surely I will no more give [this] thy corn to be meat for thine enemies;
and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine,
for the which thou hast laboured:
9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it,
and praise [this] the LORD;
and they that have bought it together
shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.
